Staining and sealing in detailNot sure which fence you need?
Start with the job the fence has to do. A dog that digs needs a different bottom edge than a dog that jumps. A pool needs a barrier a child cannot climb or squeeze through and a gate that closes itself. A patio by a busy road needs height and solid boards, while a yard that backs onto a marsh usually wants the opposite: something low and open that keeps the view.
Then think about upkeep. Pine is the least expensive up front but wants cleaning and a sealer every few years in this humidity. Vinyl and aluminum cost more on day one and ask for little more than a rinse. Chain link is the most fence for the money and lasts for decades if the posts are right.
The material guide lays it out side by side, and the estimator will bring samples to the visit.
