Vinyl fence cost per foot, and what you save later
Vinyl costs more to install than pine and less to own. Here is the up-front number and the long-run comparison.
Vinyl fence is sold as a system of posts, rails and panels, and the manufacturer, wall thickness and color all affect the price. White privacy is the most common and least expensive; tan, clay, grey and wood-grain textures cost more. Gate posts need metal inserts, and vinyl gates are priced higher than wood ones because of the hardware and reinforcement.
What vinyl saves is upkeep. There is no sealer every few years and no board-by-board replacement for rot. Over a decade or more, that narrows the gap with wood considerably.

A worked example: vinyl against pine over ten years
For 180 feet of six-foot privacy with two walk gates:
- White vinyl: about $7,840 to $11,900 installed, then occasional washing.
- Pine dog-ear: about $5,740 to $8,700 installed, plus two or three stain or sealer coats over ten years at roughly $900 to $1,700 per face each time.
After a decade the totals sit much closer together, and the vinyl fence still looks new.

Each gate needs a reinforced post, heavier hinges and a latch rated for vinyl, and the frame needs internal bracing.
Does color affect price?
Yes. White is least expensive; colors and textures add to the per-foot cost.
